Profile

Jean Brick has rejoined the Department of Linguistics as a full-time staff member in 2006, after an absence of seven years. She has extensive experience in the fields of Applied Linguistics and language teaching and has undertaken consultancies funded by a range of agencies including the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank and AusAID. These consultancies have involved living and working in China, Indonesia, Thailand, Kiribati, Tonga, Sri Lanka and most recently Maldives.

Jean's research interests are focussed on cross-cultural communication and literacy development, including the development of academic literacy. She is the author of several books, including China: A Handbook in Intercultural Communication, (2nd ed 2004)  and Academic Culture: What you need to know about university study, to be published in 2006. She is currently engaged in exploring the development of academic literacy in the field of economics from middle school to university.
