ProfileBefore joining Macquarie University in 1989, Geoff Brindley worked as an ESL teacher and researcher for the NSW Adult Migrant English Service, having previously worked as an EFL teacher and program manager in France. Until 2001, he held concurrent appointments as Senior Lecturer in Linguistics and Research Director in the National Centre for English Language Teaching and Research (NCELTR). Dr Brindley convenes the Doctor of Applied Linguistics program and is also the convener of a number of units in the Master of Applied Linguistics and Doctor of Applied Linguistics programs, including LING906 (Language Testing), LING941 (Further Approaches to Design, Analysis and Interpretation), LING943 (Current Issues in Second Language Acquisition) and LING944 (Current Issues in Language Testing and Evaluation). His main research interests are in language testing and assessment, and he has supervised a number of MA and PhD dissertations in this area. Dr Brindley has written and edited a wide range of publications on language assessment, language curriculum development, second language acquisition and language teacher professional development. He is a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of Language Testing, Language Teaching Research, Asia-Pacific Journal of Language in Education and Prospect. In 1999-2000 he was a member of the TESOL Research Agenda Task Force which produced a research agenda for the International TESOL organization. From 1992-94 he was Test Development Co-ordinator of the Australian Assessment of Communicative English Skills (access:) test, and from 1999-2000 he acted as Chief Examiner (Australia) for the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). In 1998 he received the Macquarie University Research Supervisor of the year award. |
