ProfileSharon has an Honours degree in Speech and Hearing Sciences, and a PhD in Linguistics from Macquarie University. Her area of interest is in diagnosis and remediation of central auditory processing disorders (CAPD) in children. She is currently undertaking a four year National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Public Health (Australia) Training Fellowship to conduct studies to develop and evaluate an audiological test to diagnose auditory streaming deficits in children, using spatialized sound. The training fellowship will also involve development of a deficit-specific software program to train children diagnosed with binaural interaction deficits to understand speech in spatially-separated background noise. The software program will be evaluated using behavioral and electrophysiological paradigms. Sharon is also working as a Research Scientist at the National Acoustic Laboratories investigating CAPD in children. She lectures on CAPD at Macquarie University. |
