ProfileBefore being elected Head of the Department of Linguistics at the beginning of 2000, David Hall was manager of the English Language Services section of NCELTR from 1992 to 1999 and managed the Macquarie linguistics postgraduate distance learning program from its inception in 1994. He teaches curriculum innovation, management, and language for special purposes at masters level, and units on curriculum and leadership at doctoral level. David has lived and worked in a number of countries, including Thailand, Malaysia, Iran, Rwanda, France and England. David has considerable experience in administration, consultancy and research project work. He has been a consultant for: international aid agencies such as UNDP, ODA (UK), the British Council, CIDA (Canada), SIDA (Sweden) and AusAID; educational bodies such as NSW Department of Education, the University of Brunei, Western Sydney Institute of TAFE, Regional English Language Centre (Singapore), Srinakharinwirot University, Mahidol University and King Mongkut Institute of Technology (Thailand), the Philippine Normal University and De La Salle University (Philippines) and the Centre Universitaire de Batna (Algeria); government departments such as the Department of Primary Industries, the Department of Urban Affairs and Planning and the Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs; and private companies and organisations such as Wellcome, Merck, Sharp & Dohme, Glaxo, Allen+Hanburys, Infamed, the Australian Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association, the Australian Association of Asthma Foundations, Hewlett-Packard, Cathay Pacific, Qantas Flight Catering, the Medical Journal of Australia, NSW State Rail Authority and the NSW Taxi Council. He has worked on and taken a leadership role in research projects such as the OU-MU Joint Materials Development project, the AusAID Institutional Links Project, and the Philippines Project in Basic Education. He is Team Leader for a current Flagship grant on Phonetic and Phonological Teaching and Learning and chairs the Steering Committee for a second Flagship project on The Integration of Generic Skills in the EFS Core Curriculum. |
