Profile

Izumi, a former student in the Translation & Interpreting program, is a NAATI accredited translator (English to Japanese) specialising in the areas of IT, medical, education and government-related documents. He also does frequent interpreting, voice-over work as well as teaching Japanese at a high school.

Since joining Macquarie University, Izumi has taught on units including TRAN 816 (Theory and Practice in Translation - English into Japanese), TRAN 820 (Translation Practice - English into Japanese) and TRAN 834 (Advanced Translation - English into Japanese).

Izumi's research interests includes translator competence, translator pedagogy, application of second language teaching to translator pedagogy, application of translation to second language teaching, socio-cultural issues on loan words, and translation quality assessment.
