Profile

For the past 12 years Heather’s work has focused on Professional and Organisational communications from both an academic and an industry perspective. Prior to this she was based overseas as an ESL Teacher taking up positions in New Zealand, China, Japan and Cameroon.

After completing her Masters Degree in Applied Linguistics, Heather set up and managed an educational consulting business. Its focus was the placement of ESL teachers and students into schools in Sydney, the design and implementation of ESL courses and ESL Consultancy services. Heather was also responsible for setting up and lecturing on the teaching methodology course for TESOL trainees at Macquarie University.

After starting a family, Heather returned to work and has divided her time between lecturing in Professional Communications in the Faculty of Human Sciences at Macquarie University and working as a senior communications consultant to industry. In industry she has specialised in stakeholder communications as well as the design and implementation of environmental and socially focused industry programs. She has project management experience which has included the management of; finances, human resources and marketing. She also has experience in writing documentation for tender processes or proposals.

Heather currently convenes and lectures on courses in Organisational Communications (Ling 960) and Concepts in Language Teaching Management (Ling 918) at Macquarie University and is completing her PhD on The Negotiation and Construction of Trust in Business Discourse with an emphasis on stakeholder engagement and the discourses of sustainability and CSR.
