ProfileJohn Knox has taught in the Linguistics Department at Macquarie since 2000. From 1992 to 2000, he taught EFL in the English Department at Rangsit University, Thailand, and was Head of Graduate Studies in the English Department at Rangsit from December, 1999 to June, 2000. He has also taught on EFL and ESP programs at Kasetsart University, Mahidol University, and Mahidol University International College in Thailand; and has taught EAP at Macquarie University and the University of Sydney. John completed a Master of Applied Linguistics by distance from Macquarie University, and is near completion of his PhD research at the University of Sydney, examining the multimodal discourse of online newspapers. He is a member of the Applied Linguistics and Language in Education (ALLE) Research Centre, and of the Centre for Language in Social Life (clsl). John has supervised research projects in curriculum development and implementation; pedagogic discourse in face-to-face and online contexts; and language assessment. He is particularly interested in supervising research where Systemic Functional Linguistics is used as an analytical tool. In addition to research supervision, John teaches on a number of units in Macquarie’s Postgraduate Programs in Applied Linguistics. His teaching and convening responsibilities in 2008 are:
