Profile

Before joining Macquarie University, Jieun Lee worked as an interpreter and translator at the American Embassy in Seoul, Korea from 1995 to 2000, and has worked as a freelancer since 2001. She has a wide range of interpreting experiences from conference interpreting to community interpreting. Her interpreting and translation experiences cover political, diplomatic, academic, financial, business, religious, legal and medical topics, and she has interpreted for numerous high profile political figures, academics, and government officials.

Since 2003, Jieun has taught Interpreting Techniques (TRAN821), Interpreting Practice (TRAN822), Advanced Consecutive Interpreting (TRAN849), Mock Conference (TRAN845), Translation Practice (TRAN820) and Advanced Translation (TRAN834 & TRAN836) at Mater of Translation and Interpreting, Master of Conference Interpreting, and Master of Advanced Translation Programs.

She has undertaken PhD study in the discourse analysis of court interpreting, and her research interests are legal interpreting, assessment of interpreting performance, telephone interpreting, and interpreter/translator competence and training.
