Profile

Before commencing her appointment at Macquarie University, Catherine completed a PhD at the University of Western Australia on synaptic transmission and action potential initiation in the inner ear. The focus of this research was on understanding the possible mechanisms of cochlear tinnitus (ringing in the ear) and auditory neuropathy (a recently characterised auditory disorder where the afferent neurones fail to respond normally to sound but the inner ear mechanics are normal). Prior to this she worked at Australian Hearing for two years following completing the Graduate Diploma of Audiology at the University of Melbourne. In addition to working in diagnostic and rehabilitative audiology, she was also involved in the provision of hearing services to Surabaya, Indonesia.

Her research interests lie in diagnostic audiology, electrophysiology, Auditory Neuropathy, Tinnitus, Meniere's Syndrome and Auditory Processing. More specifically, these are in round window electrocochleography and VIIIth nerve recordings.
