ProfileDr Jennifer Peck joined Macquarie University in 2003, having previously taught at The University of Queensland, the University of New England and Griffith University. Her main areas of research are related to gender and communication, cross-cultural communication and discourse analysis. Jennifer has taken her research interests into private and government business sectors, advising on Best Practice for Diversity and delivering training programs in Customer Service in a Diverse Community. Her training programs also encourage the inclusion and advancement of minority groups such as women, indigenous Australians, people from non- English speaking backgrounds and people with disabilities. Jennifer’s earlier corporate background enables her to understand business problems and deliver constructive solutions. She has also worked with recent migrants to Australia, running workshops in Australian Workplace Culture, and she has worked with vision impaired people. Jennifer has recently been listed on The Queensland Register of Women. Jennifer teaches in a number of units in the Undergraduate Linguistics Program. These include LING109 (Language, Culture and Communication), SLP148 (Language, Logic and Computation), LING216 (Sociolinguistics), and LING253 (The English Language). She is convenor of LING110 (Language Description), and will be offering a Special Interest Seminar in Language, Gender and Power in 2004. In 2004 Jennifer will teach in the new unit: Languages in New Media. Her membership of the Department's Centre for Language in Social Life reflects Jennifer's research interests and community work. |
