At Macquarie University from 1998. Convenes: Postgraduate: LING903 Language and Culture. Undergraduate: LING219 Introduction to Sociolinguistics; LING324 Bilingualism; LING332 Anthropological Linguistics. Contributes guest lectures to LING 110 Introduction to Linguistics; LING290 Language, Globalisation and World Englishes, and LING333 Australian English, as well as to the foundation unit for the Bachelor of Social Science.

Research: Interested in Arabic sociolinguistics and language variation and language change in medieval and contemporary settings. Supervises Honors and Higher Degree Research students in the areas of sociolinguistics (particularly Arabic sociolinguistics, but I have also supervised students researching Mandarin, Korean, Japanese, Ga, and Bahasa Indonesia); and language change; using descriptive linguistics, sociolinguistic, or anthropological linguistics theory and methods.

Awards: 2010 Vice-Chancellor's Citation for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning.

Outreach:  Contributes towards promoting the discipline of linguistics though involvement in the organization of the NSW (South) Chapter of OzCLO, the Australian Computing and Linguistics Olympiads. Involved in community and forensic linguistic activities relevant to effective and inclusive communication in a pluralistic Australia. Past Vice President Australian Linguistics Society.
