ProfileHelen’s professional background is in the fields of translation and interpreting and teaching English as a foreign language. She has extensive experience in France and Australia in both these fields. In translation and interpreting she worked in France for over fifteen years as a freelance translator for UNESCO, the OECD and private enterprise as well as in-house for a political documentary production company writing English language versions of documentary material and interpreting for company business. In the area of teaching English as a Foreign language she has developed and taught specialized courses for Higher Education institutions in France and taught in the ELICOS sector in Australia. She started working as a researcher with NCELTR and the AMEP Research Centre in 1996 and has been lecturing in the Department of Linguistics since 1998 in bilingualism, community interpreting, translation and assessment. Her research interests include discourse-based studies of community interpreting, translation studies, language assessment and childhood bilingual acquisition. She is currently completing a PhD in interpreting in languages of limited diffusion. |
