Profile

Beth joined the Department of Linguistics as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow with the AMEP Research Centre in February 2009. She originally trained as a speech pathologist, but has now specialised in the area of pronunciation and intelligibility in speakers of English as a second language. Her doctoral thesis investigated the features of pronunciation that have an impact on intelligibility in adult learners of English. She has extensive experience in working with people who want to improve their intelligibility, and has conducted pronunciation classes at the tertiary level, private consultations for corporate clients, and professional development sessions for teachers of English in the TESOL context. Before joining the Macquarie University she worked as a learning skills advisor at The University of Melbourne, and taught the subject Analysing Spoken English for TESOL as part of the Masters of Applied Linguistics program at La Trobe University.
