Before coming to Macquarie University in 2001, Eva taught English as a Foreign Language (EFL) in Europe and English as a Second Language (ESL) in Australia since 1991. Since 2001 she has been involved in a postgraduate TESOL course in the Department of Linguistics as a lecturer, practicum coordinator, and unit convenor.
Eva's research mainly involves issues concerning the role of cognitive, metacognitive, and affective factors in language acquisition, as well as the role of cultural and psychological traits. She has also conducted research in the area of teacher education and development, focusing on ideological, pedagogical and psychological issues related to Non-Native English Speaker Teachers (NESTs). Currently, Eva is a research fellow on a 2-year Australian Learning and Teaching Council (ALTC) (formerly Carrick Institute) project in collaboration with researches from five other Australian universities. Eva is a member of numerous professional associations in her field, and has recently been appointed to the Board of the ATESOL Council (NSW). She serves as an Associate Editor in two international peer-reviewed journals: The Asian EFL Journal, and Journal of English as an International Language. She is also the Guest Editor of an upcoming special issue on English Language Teacher Education and Development: Issue and Perspectives in Asia. Read more
Eva is currently writing a book on the psychology of the language learner with a particular focus on the role of metacognitive beliefs.
