This project is an action research study to design, implement and evaluate a program to train mentors and protégés in the Auslan interpreting profession. The Auslan Interpreting Mentorship Program will provide a professional avenue for inexperienced and/or new graduates to utilise coaching, direction, de-briefing and guidance. Inexperienced interpreters will benefit by having access to a mentor who will provide structured ongoing support through their first year or early stage of professional work. Experienced interpreters who take part in the program will receive professional training on how to be a mentor and how to receive mentoring themselves. This will provide a core trained group of mentors who can be the base of an ongoing mentorship program run by ASLIA Victoria in Melbourne.
