The focus of this project is on dealing with the challenges faced by new applied linguistics postgraduate students in their first semester of study, and introduces academic literacy support during this period. The project aims to develop a pilot induction and a negotiated on-going support program for these students. This program will introduce students to aspects of academic literacy within the discipline and develop awareness of faculty expectations and assessment practices. As this program is discipline-specific it will be of immediate relevance. This model has the potential to be extended to other disciplines initially within Macquarie University but ultimately to other universities.
