Call for papers:
  • On varieties of English, especially those of the Southern Hemisphere, including Australasia, Oceania and Southern Africa; and on both settler and indigenised varieties, including pidgins and creoles. Sociolinguistic and ethnographic descriptions will be welcome, as well as structural analyses, both synchronic and diachronic. 

  • On other pluricentric languages represented in the Southern Hemisphere, and varietal studies of them will also be welcome.

  • On language issues within the Southern Hemisphere, e.g. bilingualism, multilingualism

  • Other issues relevant to linguistics in Australia

  • Papers off-theme will be considered, but presenters are encouraged to think creatively to link their work with the theme of the conference.

Abstracts of 450 words should be sent to the ALS 2008 website: ALS08@ling.mq.edu.au  Submission by 26 January 2008; notification of acceptance: by the end of February, 2008.
