Submission

ALS 2008 Conference – Instructions for authors

Please follow these instructions carefully. Abstracts that do not conform to the required format will be returned for reformatting.

Abstract Size:             450 words

Before typing the abstract, please set your word processor to the following:

  • paper size: A4  

  • margins: top, bottom, left and right set to 2 cm

  • typeface and font: Times New Roman 11 point

  • spacing: single spacing

  • alignment: title, name/s, institution/s should be left aligned 


Abstract Format:

 

TITLE (upper case and bold)
Author(s) Name(s) (immediately below the title)
Institutional affiliation(s) (typed immediately below authors)
  [one line space]
abstract (Times New Roman 11 pt font; 450 word max)
  [four lines space]
Programming details:

(a full presentation—20 minutes with 5 minutes question time or a poster presentation—5 min presentation plus poster.)

Contact details: (postal address, phone, fax and email of submitting author)
   

Abstract Submission:

  • The abstract should be saved as a Microsoft Word file with a “.doc” extension.

  • Name the file ALS08-author surname. It is important that this system is followed. If you are submitting more than one abstract, please add -2 or -3 to subsequent abstracts.

  • Please submit the abstract as an email attachment to: ALS08@ling.mq.edu.au

  • The subject heading of the email MUST be ALS08 abstract – author surname.

  • The submitting author will be sent an email advising the receipt of the abstract within 5 days. If you do not receive it, contact the conference organizers.

Criteria on which abstracts will be evaluated:

1. Clarity of abstract: is the question/issue addressed in the paper clearly stated?; is the conceptual framework outlined?

2. Appropriateness of methodology/design for the conclusions drawn

3. Freshness/originality of the research

4. Significance: is the scientific significance clear?; is the paper of methodological or theoretical importance?

5. Interest: is the paper likely to be of interest to a reasonable number of ALS attendees?

6. Preparation: is the paper based on data already analysed?
