Macquarie University Audiology Clinic
ON-CAMPUS CLINIC
Services are available at the on-campus clinic for a wide variety of ages in the following areas:
- Comprehensive diagnostic hearing services
- Hearing aid fittings, repairs & accessories
- Hearing rehabilitation
- Hearing loss prevention and hearing protection
- Counselling and communication training
- Auditory processing assessment and management
- Tinnitus management
- Custom products such as musician earplugs, ear level monitors, noise protection plugs and swimming plugs.
As an independent clinic, clients requiring hearing aids are offered a choice of devices from any manufacturer.
Educational seminars for parents, teachers and health professionals are also available on request.
Diagnostic Audiology –Diagnostic assessments of hearing are offered for clients six months of age and over. Testing facilities include pure tone audiometry, speech audiometry, immittance, visual reinforcement observation audiometry, otoacoustic emissions testing, and evoked potentials testing for compensation assessments by special arrangement.
Rehabilitative Audiology – Available for private clients. Hearing aids are available for purchase at the clinic. Fees include hearing aid counselling and ongoing audiological support during the warranty period of the hearing aid (typically three years). In addition, counselling, communication training and education of significant others may be offered on an individual or group basis.
Auditory Processing - Assessment and management for auditory processing disorder is provided for children (over 7years old) and adults. Please bring a copy of the client’s Audiogram to the appointment. If you do not have an Audiogram to bring, you may have a Hearing Assessment at the clinic before the auditory processing assessment. Please tell the receptionist at the time of booking.
Financial support is available through the Office of Hearing Services (typically recipients of Department of Veterans Affairs services and pensioners). Details of the application process are available on request.
Hearing Aid Bank: Self Help for Hard of Hearing (SHHH) and Macquarie University have established a Hearing Aid Bank. Donated hearing aids are fitted for a small fee to individuals identified by SHHH as being eligible. Eligibility includes hearing loss, financial need, a health care card, and medical clearance. There is no warranty offered on these devices.
LIVERPOOL HOSPITAL CLINIC
Audiological and vestibular (balance) assessment services are also available at Liverpool Hospital as a result of a joint agreement between Macquarie University and Sydney South West Area Health Service (SSWAHS). Audiological assessments are provided to all adults and children above 3 years of age. Assessments (excluding pre-employment and compensation cases) are bulk billed through Medicare and require a doctors referral.
