Lynne Blackford

Lynne Blackford – Audiologist / Clinical Educator

BSc (SP&Hg), MClinAud

Lynne has been a member of the Macquarie University audiology clinic team since 2008. She enjoys being a clinic educator and teaching students best practice for audiological services. Her main interests are adult rehabilitation and tinnitus services.

Brooke Rose

Brooke Rose – Audiologist / Clinical Educator

BCom (Aud Eng), MClinAud

Brooke is a clinical educator for audiology students, and her role is to supervise students and to teach them practical skills in a clinical setting. She also has an interest in paediatric audiology, and has worked in hearing rehabilitation with both adults and children previously.

Alissa Gourlie

Alisa Gourlie – Audiologist / Clinical Educator

BSc, MClinAud

Alisa became a part of the Macquarie University Audiology Clinic team in 2008 after working within the private hearing aid industry for two years.  She was attracted to the various audiological services offered at the clinic, as well as the challenge of providing clinical education to students.  Her main focus is on adult aural rehabilitation, and in particular to improve the outcomes of adults with hearing impairment. 

Bataul Khalife

Bataul Khalife – Audiologist / Clinical Educator

MClinAud

Batoul completed the Master of Clinical Audiology at Macquarie University in 2005 and has been working in diagnostic Audiology since then including having worked at Westmead Children’s Hospital, Westmead. She is currently working at one of Macquarie University's off site campus at Liverpool Hospital, where they specialise in vestibular assessment.

Megan O'Donnell

Megan O'Donnell – Audiologist / Clinical Educator

Megan completed the Master of Clinical Audiology at Macquarie University in 2010. Since graduating she has been working at one of Macquarie University's off site campus at Liverpool Hospital, where they specialise in vestibular (balance) assessment. Areas of interest are diagnostic audiology, paediatric audiology, and clinical education.

Catherine McMahon

Dr. Catherine McMahon – Head of Audiology / Senior Lecturer

Dr Catherine McMahon is the Head of Audiology at Macquarie University and the Vice President of Audiology Australia, the peak professional body for audiologists. Catherine is a member and project leader of the Centre for Language Sciences (a Centre Of Research Excellence) and a project leader within the HEARing CRC. Catherine was awarded Young Professional of the Year (2008) by Professions Australia for her work with the professional body. Her research is conducted in conjunction with the Sydney Cochlear Implant Centre, National Acoustics Laboratory and Centre for Vision Research. Her research areas include the following:

  • developing more appropriate methods of diagnosis of complex auditory disorders such as auditory neuropathy and tinnitus and the development of targeted management techniques;
  • assessing functional outcomes after cochlear implantation;
  • hearing health policy;
  • remote delivery of professional education.

Her expertise is in the area of evoked potentials and she is also a key researcher in the development of the novel MEG system for cochlear implants in conjunction with the Kanazawa Institute of Technology, Cochlear Ltd and CSIRO.

Mridula Sharma

Dr. Mridula Sharma – Lecturer

BSc & MSc (Sp Path & Aud); PhD

Prior to commencing her appointment with Macquarie University, Mridula was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Department of Psychology, Speech Science Division, University of Auckland, New Zealand. The focus of the research during the fellowship was in improving diagnosis and targeting interventions in order to achieve better outcomes for school-aged children with auditory processing disorders. Mridula has dual degree in Speech and Hearing Sciences and worked clinically in both capacities in India for 5 years before commencing her PhD at Macquarie University. Her PhD research investigated electrophysiology as a possible tool in the diagnosis of auditory processing disorders in children with reading disorders. Mridula has presented her work at both national and international conferences and has publications in peer-reviewed journals such as Clinical Neurophysiology, Australian and New Zealand Journal of Audiology, Neuroreport among others.

 

Her research interests include electrophysiological assessment of auditory function in infants and children, diagnosis and interventions of auditory processing disorders, language and reading disorders.

John Newall

John Newall – Lecturer

BScPsy, MAud

John completed his undergraduate degree in Psychology and Master of Clinical Audiology at Macquarie University. John's previous work experience has been as a diagnostic audiologist at a large, tertiary hospital, specialising in diagnostic assessment of neonates and infants. He has also worked privately in adult audiological rehabilitation and also in a research capacity within both the National Acoustic Laboratories and at Macquarie University. He currently holds a lectureship within the Audiology section. His current research interests include; hearing screening and unilateral hearing loss in neonates, barriers to rehabilitation in adults, and the electrophysiological investigation of tinnitus.   

Yee-Foong Tham

Yee-Foong Stone – Clinical Coordinator

BA, MClinAud

Yee-Foong completed the Master of Clinical Audiology at Macquarie University has a background of working in diagnostic Audiology in both hospital and private clinical settings with leading specialists in the field of otology and neuro-otology. In the role of Clinical Coordinator, she provides tutorials, practical classes, and clinical education and supervision for the postgraduate students in the Master of Clinical Audiology program as well as overseeing the management of Macquarie University’s external Audiology clinic at Liverpool Hospital. Her area of interest is vestibular assessment and disorders and clinical education.

Rebeccan Summons

Rebecca Summons – Associate Lecturer

BA BSc, MClinAud

After completing her Masters in Clinical Audiology, Rebecca worked in the areas of adult rehabilitation and paediatric diagnosis. She teaches on both the Masters of Clinical Audiology program and the Masters of Speech Pathology program.
Her research interest is in the area of audiologist-client communication, and she is currently writing her PhD in the area of communication in infant diagnostic appointments.

Katelyn Roberts

Katelyn Roberts - Administration Officer

Katelyn received her Bachelor Degree in Communications from Kansas State University in 2007 and has worked at Macquarie University since 2009 in the Department of Chiropractic. Katelyn joined the Department of Linguistics, in the Faculty of Human Sciences in July 2010.

Irene Hall

Irene Hall - Receptionist (Thurs, Fri)

Irene has been involved in the clinic since 2008 as Audiology Clinic Receptionist. She has had over 20 years experience working in Government departments. She thoroughly enjoys working in the clinic helping our clients and gets great job satisfaction from the variety of duties she is involved in.  She is also looking forward to future challenges and new developments ahead.
