Welcome to Linguistics at Macquarie, one of the largest and most diverse Linguistics Departments in Australia, and very possibly internationally. The Department supports undergraduate, postgraduate coursework and postgraduate research degrees students, both domestically, internationally and by distance. Five research centres of international standing and five clinical and other groups operate collaboratively to foster a dynamic, inter-disciplinary teaching and research environment.

Congratulations to Emeritus Professor Pam Peters - Department of Linguistics on being elected as a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Humanities (Linguistics section) at their recent annual meeting.
Professor Peters has been an outstanding contributor to Linguistics at Macquarie and internationally for many years and her election to the Academy is well deserved.

Associate Professor Ilija Casule discovered the language, known as Burushaski is Indo-European in origin

Professor Casule's discovery, which has now been verified by a number of the world's top linguists, has excited linguistics experts around the world. An entire issue of the eminent international linguistics journal The Journal of Indo-European Studies is devoted to a discussion of his findings later this month.
