NEW Applied Linguistics programs for 2006
- Master of Applied Linguistics (TESP - Teaching English for Specific Purposes)
- Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Linguistics (TESP - Teaching English for Specific Purposes)
- Postgraduate Certificate in Applied Linguistics (TESP - Teaching English for Specific Purposes)
The introduction in 2006 of these programs is a response to worldwide trends, particularly globalisation.
The demand for teachers of English (and other languages) for specific purposes has grown rapidly in recent years. There are two main areas where this demand is greatest: the increasing use of English as a medium of instruction across all levels of education; and the worldwide demand for English proficiency in the globalising workplace.
The postgraduate program strands in TESP aim to add further options to the interlinked degrees in the Applied Linguistics suite. Through their choice of core units among existing offerings and one new unit students will be able to focus in their studies on the teaching of languages for specific purposes.
