Clinical Audiology

Students will be required to attend day classes as well as clinical placements during semester and semester breaks

Admission Requirements:

 

A credit average in the applicant's undergraduate degree is required.

1. Direct entry: A Bachelor of Speech and Hearing Sciences from Macquarie University or an equivalent degree from an Australian or overseas tertiary institution.

2. Indirect entry: Applicants with degrees in other related areas will also be considered on an individual basis; some bridging coursework may be required.

Note: In the Master of Clinical Audiology program, cover letters are an essential aspect of your application. Applications without a cover letter will not be considered. Your cover letter, which should address aspects such as your background and reasons for becoming an Audiologist, is a key criterion used in short-listing applications.

Due to the clinical nature of this program, spaces are limited, therefore, entry is competitive. Meeting eligibility criteria does not guarantee a place in the program.

This course prepares graduates for the profession of Audiology, enabling them to work clinically with individuals with congenital or acquired hearing loss. The course is taught by staff within the Division of Linguistics and Psychology and is based in the Speech, Hearing and Language Research Centre . Coursework covers normal auditory and language processes, building on fundamental knowledge in linguistics, psychology, anatomy and physiology. In addition, students engage in comprehensive supervised clinical placements, which provide them with the opportunity to develop skills in assessment, intervention, service delivery and other aspects of professional practice. The course incorporates the Professional Standards of Practice, which have been established by the Audiological Society of Australia the national professional body.
