Themes in communication in professions and organisations
Organisations are linguistic structures build out of words and maintained by conversations. Even problems that aren’t strictly communicational – failures of mechanical systems for example – can be explored in terms of things said and not said, questions asked and not asked, conversations never begun or left uncompleted, alternate explanations not discussed.

This innovative Program focuses on communication in the professional and organisational workplace.The members of the Program are working on areas such as:
- How do professionals acquire communicative expertise?
- How can professionals appraise and evaluate communicative effectiveness?
- How do workplaces respond to diversity both within and among cultures?
- What is the impact of technology on communication practices in the workplace?
- What analytical tools do professionals require to understand communication?
- How are organisations mediated and constructed by writing?
In addition to study towards a postgraduate degree, the Program offers a number of opportunities to professionals, including:
- In-house customised workshops on areas of spoken and written communication
- Confidential consulting on specific communication problems

Doctoral study can be undertaken through The Doctor of Professional Communication. Candidates successfully completing the Masters program may be offered advanced standing to this Professional Doctorate.
