Qualifying Program
Qualifying Program
Students applying for the Master of Speech & Language Pathology (MSLP) program who do not meet the prerequisites are required to undertake a Qualifying Program consisting of the prerequisite units not already completed. Some of these units are available at Macquarie on an external basis.
While undergraduate degrees in Psychology or Linguistics are preferred, students from a variety of backgrounds have already successfully completed the MSLP program, and applicants will be considered on an individual basis.
Students not meeting the MSLP program prerequisites must apply in the usual way. While they may need to do a Qualifying Program, they still have to apply for the MSLP in the initial application process. Students can apply for either a beginning of year intake (applications close October 30) or mid year intake (applications close May 30). Qualifying Program units are available across semesters one and two. In addition, international students should see application details at www.international.mq.edu.qu/study/index.html. Domestic applications should be submitted via UAC. The application is then forwarded to the Program Convenor, who assesses the application. If accepted for the Qualifying Program, the student will be advised which units need to be completed. The number of units to be completed will vary across students, and depends on their undergraduate experience. While a student may be recommended for a Qualifying Program, it must be stressed that there is no guarantee of automatic acceptance into the MSLP program. It simply means that once having completed the qualifying program, the student is eligible to re-apply for the MSLP program in the following year and will be considered on a competitive basis with all other applications for that year.
Students may complete equivalent prerequisite units at other institutions, but must provide detailed unit outlines to be approved by the MSLP program Convenor.
