Master of Auslan-English Interpreting
Aims
The aim of the Master of Auslan-English Interpreting is to enhance the qualifications and skills of practising signed language interpreters who have completed the Postgraduate Diploma program. The goal of the program is for graduates to be critically reflective interpreting practitioners, with advanced academic and practical skills, knowledge and capabilities in Auslan-English interpreting. All students build on their knowledge of interpreting theory and their interpreting skills, with application of theory to practical and research skills development, either through undertaking further practical interpreting or linguistics courses or completing a research project.
Outcomes
By the end of the program, graduates should expect to be able to:
- Exhibit the Macquarie University graduate capabilities of self-awareness, interpersonal skills, communication and critical analysis skills, problem-solving and creative thinking skills
- Demonstrate advanced language skills for Auslan-English interpreting
- Discuss the range of literature on interpreting theory research and practice
- Apply T&I theory to practice of Auslan-English interpreting
- Conduct self and peer analysis and critique of interpretations
- Discuss the role of the expert interpreter in specific contexts
- Define ethical and professional interpreting practice
- Apply linguistic analysis in discussion of Auslan-English interpreting
- Harness research skills in interpreting work
- Demonstrate advanced Auslan-English interpreting skills
