Your proposal will be evaluated by staff in the Linguistics Department, who will comment on its suitability and suggest possible supervisors. You must also submit the appropriate University application form.

DESCRIPTION OF RESEARCH PROPOSAL:

  1. Please summarise (in no more than 200 words) the title of your proposal and an outline of the research you propose to undertake.

  2. Write a more detailed proposal - approximately 15 to 20 (not counting references) pages in the first instance.
    The following questions may help you.
    • What precise research question are you aiming to answer and why is it important?
    • What background reading have you done which will help your research?
    • What data do you think you will need to collect for your research?
    • What methodology appears to you relevant and appropriate for your research?
    • What resources (experimental, computing, statistical) do you envisage being needed for your research?

  3. If you have already published any papers, please list them.

  4. If you have a particular supervisor in mind, please name him/her. A list of staff and their research supervision interests may be found on the Linguistics Web Site
