COMMUNITY AUDIOLOGY
Description
This unit builds on CAUD801 Clinical Skills. This unit aims to:
- explore the model of community-centred care in audiology, issues of service delivery to rural and remote areas and cultural issues and how these impact upon the delivery of hearing services.
- develop a greater awareness about the Deaf Community, its culture and language and gain an understanding of the role of an interpreter (considering both sign and spoken languages) and how to work with them in the clinical setting.
- develop an understanding about community-based programmes and how these have developed from specific areas of need in the Australian community, including the State- Wide Infant Screening Hearing programme and the Ear Health Programmes designed for the Aboriginal Community. Furthermore, the development of audiology services and programmes in developing countries, the challenges faced and strategies to overcome these (focussing on those that have been developed in conjunction with Macquarie University).
