Description

Participants describe, interpret and explain selected professional-client encounters in key sites, e.g. healthcare, law, social work, bureaucracies, firms, and public relations. The course emphasises the explanatory value and relevance of carrying out collaborative research involving discourse specialists and professionals, leading to training and other processes which will improve professional-client communication. Ethical issues in professional-client communication are also examined.

Students will need to demonstrate how the content of the unit contributes to or can be incorporated into their proposed doctoral research area.
