Unit description:

This subject introduces the socio-cultural perspective on deafness. Characteristics of the culture of deaf people (including history, literature, theatre, and art) are considered as is the development of social structures and community resources. Students will address topics such as the role and significance of Auslan, community empowerment, bilingualism, and the contrast between the socio-cultural and deficit model of deafness.

Attendance requirements: 1 x weekend block + online (or weekly)
