Description

Unit description LING960 explores some of the main communicative practices in use in organisations today and examines the effects of these on workplace practices and relations with internal and external stakeholders. LING960 will help students to:

  • understand some of the key concepts used to discuss and analyse communication in an organisational context

  • understand how organisational structure, identity and values are realised through discursive (i.e. communicative) social practices

  • analyse and predict the impacts of organisational change or new technology on modes of communication and workplace practices

  • appreciate and accommodate the communicative complexity of modern organizations in national and global contexts

  • understand and evaluate emerging trends in organisational communication

Students bring their own personal and professional perspectives into their studies in LING960; the Unit and its assessment have been specifically designed to allow them to do this.

This Unit is open to, and attracts, students from other disciplines and does not require a prior knowledge of linguistics.
