Windows Quick Install
This page provides concise instructions on how to quickly install all of the supplied software on a Windows system. It assumes:-
- You have a compliant Windows system
- You are happy to install all of the recommended software
Before you start
Before doing anything else, print out this file so that you can follow these instructions. You might also like to print out the "Opening Windows Explorer" page referred to in each section below, the Installing QuickTime page referred to in item c) below, and the page about making Mozilla FireFox your default browser referred to in item b). This will make it easier to refer to the instructions during installation.
Installation
Install the software in the following order:-
a) Phonetic Fonts
Go to the "Installing the Phonetic Fonts on Windows" page and follow the instructions.
Your phonetic fonts ("ipauni" and "ipaascii") are now installed.
You must also test the fonts but you should leave this step until after you have installed the Mozilla FireFox browser.
b) Browser
You should go to the "Web Browser Installation" page and follow the instructions for installing the Mozilla FireFox browser on windows. Don't skip this step. Internet Explorer will NOT properly display the phonetic fonts.
You will also need to make Mozilla FireFox your default browser.
c) QuickTime
Go to the Obtaining and Installing QuickTime page and follow the instructions carefully.
Your QuickTime sound and movie player is now installed. Don't forget to test the sound. If sound doesn't work restart your computer and test again. If it still doesn't work then follow the instructions on the "QuickTime MIME Settings on Windows" page.
d) Adobe Reader
Only do this if you don't already have a recent version of Adobe Reader installed. Don't install this if you have the commercial version of Adobe Acrobat installed.
Go to the "Obtaining and Installing Adobe Reader" page and follow the instructions.
Your Adobe Reader is now installed.
