Important Processes :: Honours Entry

Honours in linguistics and speech and hearing science

To apply to take honours in linguistics, students should have qualified for the award of the corresponding Bachelor degree (Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Social Science, Bachelor of Speech & Hearing Science) with an approved linguistics or speech and hearing coherency. In addition students currently need a grade point average of 2.7 or higher at 300 level. Note: this may increase to a grade point average of 3 at 300 level for 2008. Please consult an academic advisor in the Department.

Verna Rieschild (ext 9922) for sociolinguistics

Prerequisite:   An approved coherency in 300 level LING/SPH units for the relevant degree with a grade point average of 2.7 at 300 level.

Recommended: Candidates who expect to present a thesis which involves social research are advised to consider including PSY222 Design and Statistics II and/or SOC234 Methods of Social  Research in their undergraduate degree.

                        LING/SPH402           Honours Seminar in Modern Linguistics plus
                        LING/SPH493           Linguistic Investigation and Thesis
