Dictionary Use in Translation

The project began in February 2007. The objective of this project involving staff members and research students is to gain information about ways dictionaries are used by student and professional translators to solve comprehension and equivalent finding problems in their working languages. The study involves the use of monolingual, bilingual and multi-component electronic dictionaries.
The focus of the first two projects in 2007 and first half of 2009 was monolingual and bilingual dictionaries. The group is now investigating the use of electronic dictionaries including several different components each. Progress of the project and preliminary results will be reported on this website as appropriate.
