Visiting Scholars

CTIR welcomes visiting scholars from all over the world to collaborate on teaching and research projects. While spending time at Macquarie, visiting scholars are asked to present a research seminar, and spend time with PhD students and staff in dicussing research interests.

International visiting scholars in 2010:

  • February-April 2010
    • Prof Claudia Angelelli, San Diego State University, USA
      Prof Angelelli’s visit to Macquarie University was funded through a Faculty of Human Sciences Visiting Research Fellow grant, and while here she worked with Helen Slatyer and Dr Jemina Napier to develop a proposal to replicate her own study of healthcare interpreters in the USA in Australia.
  • April-July 2010
    • Dr Leelany Ayob, Universiti Sains Malaysia
      Dr Ayob spent time at Macquarie University as part of her sabbatical, and conducted an evaluation of interpreter education by meeting with various interpreter educator academics, observing interpreting classes and discussing issues with students.
  • July-September 2010
    • Dr Josep Guzmán, Universitat Jaume I, Spain
      While visiting Macquarie University Dr Guzman worked on research/publications/presentations in relation to challenges in translation between English and Spanish.
  • October 2010
    • Dr Bente Jacobsen, Aarhus University, Denmark
      While visiting Macquarie University Dr Jacobsen met with T&I staff and students and gave a presentation on court interpreting modes in Denmark.

      • A/Prof Cynthia Jane Kelltt Bidoli, University of Trieste, Italy

      • Dr Laurence Hayes & Vicki Brashear, Eastern Kentucky University, USA
        ASL interpreter educators and researchers - visit to meet with sign language researchers and PhD students
    • September 2011
      • Prof Claudia Angelelli, San Diego State University, USA
        Interpreter educator & researcher - Visit to concentrate on data collection for the collaborative research project with Helen Slatyer on the role of medical interpreters
